Yom HaZikaron is observed in April, but this year it will be celebrated by May 3 to 4. It is an Israeli memorial day in which the martyrs of Israel’s War of Independence are remembered with silence and reverence. The commemoration of Yom HaZikaron is followed by the commemoration of Israel’s Independence Day, Yom Ha’atzmaut. The commemoration of Yom HaZikaron sends the message that Israel owes its independence to soldiers who gave their lives for the country’s survival. This day commemorates the sacrifices made by those who fought for Israel’s freedom.
